Roxbury Appointed to Statewide Advisory Committee. . .

Jennifer Roxbury, COO of  The Farmers National Bank of Emlenton, has been appointed to the Pennsylvania Bankers Association (PBA) Advisory Committee for the PBA School of Banking. The Committee is responsible for reviewing the operational aspects of the school and evaluating school curriculum to insure it is relevant and meets PBA member banks’ educational needs. The week-long school, conducted at Penn Stater Conference Center, State College, PA, provides an overview of the general banking environment and internal bank management functions.

Roxbury will serve a 3-year term starting July 1. Ms. Roxbury currently holds the position of Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer at The Farmers National Bank of Emlenton. She is responsible for managing the Bank’s branch network, marketing, human resources, compliance, facilities, and all consumer loan and deposit operations. In the interest of party unity, Democratic leaders said Monday, there will be no primary for the Huntington Town board.

Three of the four candidates have decided not to seek the nomination and have dropped out after speaking with County Democratic chairman Rich Schaffer, town chairwoman Mary Collins said.

Edward Nitkewicz, a lawyer and South Huntington school board member, Ed Perez, town zoning board of appeals member and president of the Diversity Resource Network marketing consulting organization, and Keith Barrett, Huntington Station Business Improvement District president, all decided to remove their names from consideration. That leaves Tracey Edwards, a Verizon executive, seeking the nod.

“The four candidates got together and decided a primary would not be helpful and not in the best interest of the party,” Collins said. “The cost and exertion and all the stuff that goes on in a primary would not be in anyone’s best interest.”

Town board member Mark Cuthbertson had already secured the nomination to retain his job.

Edwards, who has sought a town board post twice before, said she is honored that her colleagues — who had invested in running and had their own plans, families and supporters — withdrew from the race in the name of unity. “I will honor that by doing whatever I can to win in November.”

To improve the understanding of social media and the internet in general, a two-day seminar tagged ‘Growing Your Hotel Business with Social Media’ was recently held in Lagos. The seminar also explored the various cost-effective ways of harnessing online marketing opportunities to grow customer-base especially for those in the hospitality sector.

Put together by WebAfrique Services Limited, an ICT Consultancy firm that arranges targeted training sessions for business sectors and develops ICT-related solutions and business improvement strategies for companies, the seminar cut across many issues challenging the sector.

The targeted participants were hotel owners and managers in the Ikeja area of Lagos metropolis and to reach out to them, WebAfrique partnered with their business and marketing development consultants, Aura Mata Investments Limited, a firm of investors and business consultants.

The participants, which were drawn from hotels in Ikeja, were taken through a mini-workshop where the online presence of some of their hotels were reviewed and improvement strategies were discussed.

The facilitators included the Managing Director of WebAfrique; Mr. Ayo Odusolu, the CEO of Aura Mata; Mr. Emrys Ijaola, and Mr. Emeka Okeke, an academy facilitator of CWC Limited, a network marketing training and outsourcing company based in Ikeja, Lagos.

Participants were taken through the basics of the business perspectives of social media, and taught how to use online and mobile social platforms to increase patronage and create guest loyalty.

During the course of the lecture, Ijaola focused extensively on branding, and how to create a strong and outstanding business brand through a combination of image promotion and quality service delivery, stressing the numerous advantages cottage hotels have over the larger franchises.

Odusolu, on the other hand, focused on the various social media platforms available; the most commonly used ones, reasons why businesses should embrace social media and effective business uses of social media to boost profit margins.

Also, Okeke discussed the various benefits of using social media and best ways to use marketing outsourcing consultants to grow the marketing initiative of a hotel business at least cost.

Participants commented on the timeliness of the seminar, and expressed optimism that their businesses will experience tremendous boost as a fallout of the lessons they learnt from the rich repertoire of knowledge shared at the seminar.

State government urged to protect MLM sector

The president of the Confederation of Direct-selling Distributors Association of India, P A Joseph, on Friday alleged that the police were targeting those who are trying to make a living out of multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes.

“The state government must protect this sector which provides employment to around 15 lakh people in the state,” he said at a press conference here.

“It may be noted that earning an income through MLM is not illegal in the state. It is a successful business model in many countries and in some states also. But we are being targeted by the police in Kerala,” he said.

“In 2011, the state government had given an assurance that those who comply with  government-framed guidelines for MLM will not have to face any problem. But the government did not keep its word. The police are framing fake cases under the Prize Chit and Money Circulation (Banning) Scheme Act, 1978, against dealers and distributors,” he alleged.

He said that by arresting network marketing company Amway’s India chairman and chief executive William S Pinckney and two company directors, Kerala lost a chance to get foreign investment.

“It is learnt that Amway had plans to set up a production unit in India and they have decided to invest in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
